Make restaurant-quality chicken tenders at home using your air fryer. This recipe delivers juicy, tender chicken with a perfectly crispy exterior, using either a classic breading or a simple, healthy no-breading method. It is a quick, family-friendly dinner solution.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs chicken tenderloins, trimmed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Cooking spray or 1 tablespoon oil (for unbreaded version)
  • For Breaded Option:
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken tenderloins completely dry using paper towels. This step helps achieve a crisp texture.
  2. In a medium bowl, toss the dry chicken tenders with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika until evenly coated.
  3. For No-Breading Option: Lightly spray the seasoned tenders with cooking spray or toss with 1 tablespoon of oil. Proceed to Step 5.
  4. For Breaded Option: Set up a standard breading station: Place flour in the first shallow dish, beaten eggs in the second, and Panko breadcrumbs mixed with cayenne (if using) in the third. Dredge each tender first in flour (shaking off excess), then dip in egg, and finally press firmly into the Panko mixture to coat completely.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (195°C).
  6. Arrange the tenders in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the basket; work in batches if necessary.
  7. Air fry for 10 to 14 minutes, flipping the tenders halfway through the cooking time, until they are golden brown and reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Cooking time varies based on thickness.
  8. Remove from the air fryer and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

  • For the crispiest breaded tenders, lightly spray the coated tenders with cooking spray just before placing them in the air fryer.
  • If using frozen tenders, thaw them completely first for even cooking.
  • You can make these ahead; cool completely, then store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-5 minutes to restore crispness.
