Make this classic, creamy clam dip using cream cheese and canned clams. It is a simple, tangy appetizer perfect for parties, game days, or holiday gatherings. Serve cold with crackers or chips.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 (6.5 ounce) can minced clams, drained well
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives or green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Place the softened cream cheese in a medium mixing bowl.
  2. Add the drained minced clams, sour cream, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder to the bowl.
  3. Use an electric mixer or a sturdy spoon to combine all ingredients until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Mix until no lumps of cream cheese remain.
  4. Taste the dip and add salt and pepper as needed.
  5. Transfer the clam dip to a serving bowl.
  6. Cover the bowl and chill the dip in the refrigerator for at least one hour before serving. Chilling allows the flavors to blend.
  7. Before serving, garnish the top with chopped chives or green onions.
  8. Serve your homemade clam dip cold with potato chips, sturdy crackers, or fresh vegetable sticks.

Notes

  • Make sure you drain the canned clams very thoroughly; excess liquid will make your dip watery.
  • For a tangier dip, substitute half of the sour cream with plain Greek yogurt.
  • If you prefer a little heat, add a dash of your favorite hot sauce when mixing the ingredients.
  • This dip is best served cold. If it sits out at a party, return any leftovers to the refrigerator promptly.
