Make these simple Cinnamon French Toast Sticks for a quick, crowd-pleasing breakfast or brunch. This recipe focuses on maximum cinnamon flavor and easy preparation.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices thick cut bread (Texas toast or brioche works well)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk (whole or 2%)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for the batter)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (for coating)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted (for pan)

Instructions

  1. Cut each slice of bread lengthwise into three equal strips to create your French toast sticks. Set aside.
  2. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon until fully combined. This is your French toast batter.
  3. In a separate shallow dish, mix the granulated sugar and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon together for the coating.
  4. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add half of the melted butter.
  5. Dip each bread stick into the batter, letting any excess drip off. Do not soak the bread.
  6. Place the coated sticks onto the hot skillet, ensuring they do not touch. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Immediately transfer the cooked sticks to the cinnamon sugar mixture. Toss gently until all sides are evenly coated.
  8. Repeat the process with the remaining butter and bread sticks.
  9. Serve the Homemade Cinnamon Sticks warm with your favorite dipping sauce, like a Maple Syrup Dip Recipe.

Notes

  • For crispier sticks, you can bake these sticks at 400°F (200°C) for 10 minutes after dipping, flipping halfway.
  • This recipe works well for Make Ahead French Toast; assemble the sticks, dip them in the batter, and store them in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before cooking.
  • For an extra rich flavor, use brioche bread for Thick Cut French Toast Sticks.
