A comforting dessert fusion combining the spiced apples of classic pie with the sweet, gooey texture of cinnamon rolls. This recipe uses refrigerated cinnamon roll dough for an easy, impressive bake.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (13.9 ounce) package refrigerated cinnamon rolls with icing
  • 4 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced thin
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9-inch pie dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with the granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until the apples are evenly coated.
  3. Unroll the cinnamon rolls. Cut each roll into four equal pieces.
  4. Place half of the cut cinnamon roll pieces in an even layer on the bottom of the prepared pie dish.
  5. Spoon the seasoned apple mixture over the cinnamon roll pieces. Dot the top of the apples with the small pieces of butter.
  6. Arrange the remaining cinnamon roll pieces over the apples, spacing them out slightly to allow for expansion during baking.
  7. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the cinnamon roll topping is golden brown. If the topping browns too quickly, loosely cover the dish with foil.
  8. Remove the pie from the oven. While the bake is still warm, drizzle the icing packets included with the cinnamon rolls evenly over the top.
  9. Let the bake cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use brown sugar instead of granulated sugar in the apple filling.
  • If you prefer a less sweet topping, use only half of the provided icing.
  • This sweet breakfast bake with apples works well served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
