Make this restaurant-style creamy garlic chicken in one pan for a quick, comforting weeknight dinner. This easy skillet chicken recipe features tender breasts in a rich garlic cream sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken breasts on both sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  2. Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the seasoned chicken breasts to the hot skillet and sear for 5-7 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature reaches 165°F). Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic to the same skillet and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant. Do not let the garlic burn.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let the broth simmer and reduce slightly for 2 minutes.
  6. Stir in the heavy cream and Dijon mustard. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer.
  7. Reduce the heat to low and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until the sauce is smooth and velvety. Taste and add more salt or pepper if needed.
  8. Return the cooked chicken breasts to the skillet, spooning the creamy garlic sauce over them. Let it warm through for 1-2 minutes.
  9. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving immediately over rice, pasta, or alongside roasted potatoes.

Notes

  • For a low carb or keto chicken dinner, serve this skillet chicken with steamed broccoli or cauliflower mash instead of rice or pasta.
  • If you want a thicker sauce, let the cream simmer uncovered for a few extra minutes before adding the chicken back in.
  • You can use chicken thighs instead of breasts; adjust cooking time as needed.
