Make simple, crowd-pleasing glazed carrots using familiar flavors for your holiday meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs carrots, peeled and sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Place the sliced carrots and water in a medium saucepan.
  2. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Reduce heat to low, cover the pan, and cook for 8 minutes, or until carrots are tender-crisp. Drain off any excess water.
  4. Add the sugar, butter, salt, and pepper to the saucepan with the carrots.
  5. Cook over medium heat, stirring gently, until the butter melts and the liquid reduces to a light glaze that coats the carrots, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  6. Serve immediately as a Thanksgiving classic.

Notes

  • For a deeper flavor, substitute brown sugar for half of the granulated sugar.
  • You can prepare the carrots up to the draining step ahead of time and refrigerate them. Reheat before glazing.
