Make this Sticky Honey Gochujang Chicken for a quick, flavorful dinner. This recipe balances sweet honey with spicy gochujang for a satisfying Korean-inspired meal that cooks fast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (like canola or vegetable)
  • 1/4 cup gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup water or chicken broth
  • Optional: Sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken pieces dry with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat the neutral oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the gochujang, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. This creates your sweet and spicy glaze.
  4. Pour the sauce mixture into the same skillet. Add the water or broth. Bring the sauce to a simmer, stirring constantly until it thickens slightly, about 1-2 minutes.
  5. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet. Toss the chicken pieces until they are completely coated in the sticky honey gochujang sauce. Cook for 1 minute more to let the glaze adhere.
  6. Remove from heat. Serve immediately over steamed rice or as part of a chicken bowl. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired.

Notes

  • For extra crispy chicken, lightly dust the raw chicken pieces in cornstarch before searing them in step 2.
  • If you prefer a milder heat, reduce the amount of gochujang by one tablespoon and add one teaspoon of brown sugar to maintain sweetness.
  • This chicken pairs well with quick-cooking vegetables like steamed broccoli or quick-pickled cucumbers for a complete Korean-inspired comfort food meal.
