Ingredients
Scale
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
3 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup tequila (blanco or silver)
1/4 cup fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon lime zest
1/4 cup orange liqueur (like Triple Sec)
1 cup fine granulated sugar for rolling
1 tablespoon coarse sea salt for rolling
Instructions
In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth.
Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until fully combined.
Add the tequila, lime juice, lime zest, and orange liqueur to the mixture. Beat until the mixture is smooth and well incorporated.
Cover the bowl and chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or until firm enough to roll.
In a shallow dish, combine the 1 cup of fine granulated sugar and the coarse sea salt. Mix well. This is your coating.
Scoop out small amounts of the chilled mixture (about 1 tablespoon each) and quickly roll them into balls using your hands.
Roll each ball immediately in the sugar and salt mixture until fully coated.
Place the finished margarita balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Refrigerate the finished cocktail inspired candy for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a stronger flavor, you can reduce the powdered sugar slightly and increase the tequila by one teaspoon.
If you prefer a smoother coating, use only fine granulated sugar and omit the salt from the rolling mixture.
These adult only dessert recipes must be kept chilled until serving time.
