Make this quick and easy olive oil bread dip featuring garlic, herbs, and balsamic vinegar. It is the perfect flavorful appetizer for crusty bread and comes together in under five minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced finely
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (or 1 tablespoon fresh, chopped)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar (for drizzling)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dipping bowl, combine the extra virgin olive oil, minced garlic, dried Italian herbs, oregano, black pepper, and salt.
  2. Stir all the ingredients together well to distribute the seasonings evenly throughout the oil.
  3. If using, sprinkle the Parmesan cheese over the top of the oil mixture.
  4. Drizzle the balsamic vinegar over the surface of the oil just before serving. Do not stir the vinegar in completely; allow guests to dip through the layers.
  5. Serve immediately with warm crusty bread, baguette, or focaccia for dipping.

Notes

  • For a Mediterranean olive oil dip flavor, add 1/2 teaspoon of Za’atar spice blend to the oil mixture.
  • If you prefer a restaurant style oil dip similar to Carrabba’s, use high-quality extra virgin olive oil and ensure the garlic is very finely minced or pressed.
  • This simple bread dip is best made fresh, but you can mix the oil and dry seasonings up to 4 hours ahead of time. Add the fresh garlic and balsamic just before serving.
