Make this bright pink, refreshing strawberry lemonade using fresh berries for a sweet-tart drink perfect for warm weather gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water (for simple syrup)
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 68 lemons)
  • 4 cups cold water (for mixing)
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices and whole strawberries for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the strawberry simple syrup: Combine the 2 cups of strawberries, 1 cup of sugar, and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan.
  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 5 minutes, crushing the strawberries slightly with a spoon.
  3. Remove the syrup from the heat and let it cool for 15 minutes.
  4. Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing down on the solids to extract all the liquid. Discard the solids. You now have strawberry puree syrup.
  5. In a large pitcher, combine the cooled strawberry syrup and the 1 cup of fresh lemon juice. Stir well.
  6. Add the 4 cups of cold water to the pitcher and mix until fully combined. Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness if needed.
  7. Chill the lemonade in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  8. Serve over ice, garnished with fresh lemon slices and whole strawberries.

Notes

  • For a more intense strawberry flavor, you can blend the cooked strawberries before straining the syrup.
  • If you want a less sweet drink, reduce the initial sugar amount to 3/4 cup.
  • This recipe makes a great base for kids party drinks or spring picnic ideas.
